The medium-sized Songshan Regional Airport is located in the middle of an urban area about 3 km north of the centre of Taiwan's capital city, Taipei.
Its location close to the city and the short distances inside the terminal make the airport extremely popular with travellers.
However, due to noise restrictions and limited capacity, relatively few flights operate from Songshan Airport. Most passengers are served by domestic flights within Taiwan and to other small islands within Taiwan.
International services with large capacity long-haul aircraft operate with frequent service, particularly to Tokyo, Shanghai and Seoul.
The vast majority of international flights are served from the large Taiwan Taoyuan TPE airport 30 km away.
