Transportation from New York LaGuardia Airport

Central Park in New York

La Guardia can only be reached by public transport buses, which take you on several lines to different metro or train stations. The alternative is the ubiquitous taxis.

Buses

Various bus lines stop at each terminal. The bus stops are clearly signposted and are always right outside the airport.

Free Q70 line

The fastest and cheapest service to the subway is the Q70 line, which goes to the 74 St Broadway/Jackson Hts-Rossvelt Av subway station, where the E, F, M, R and 7 lines stop. Alternatively, you will need to take the airport shuttle bus from Terminal A to Terminal B.

From this station, you can reach virtually all of New York City thanks to the many subway lines.

The Q70 bus doesn't stop anywhere between the airport and the subway and can make the trip in about 15 minutes.

The total travel time from La Guardia Airport to Manhattan will be approximately 45-60 minutes.

The Q70 is free and the buses run 24/7. To ride the subway, visit 2,90 usd and pay by swiping your contactless card at the turnstile or by purchasing a MetroCard at a vending machine.

Other lines

Additional lines with more stops than the Q70 will also direct you to other subway stations and beyond to the boroughs of Queens or Harlem in northern Manhattan.

All additional lines are already subject to the standard fare of 2,90 usd. You pay by swiping your contactless card at the validator with the driver or in exact cash directly to the driver.

All lines run 24/7 at 8-20 minute intervals.

  • M60 - direct service to northern Manhattan to the Harlem neighborhood, where you can transfer to subway lines 4, 5, 6 at 125 St. It also goes to the nearby Astoria Blvd subway station (N, W lines)
  • Q47 - longer service to 74 St Broadway/Jackson Hts-Rossvelt Av station, where you transfer to the E, F, M, R and 7 subways
  • Q48 - line to eastern Queens and to 111 St subway station, transferring to the 7 line
  • Q72 - direct line to the heart of Queens and to Junction Blvd (subway 7) or 63 Dr/Rego Park (subway M, R)

Taxi

A taxi ride to the city centre can be longer than taking the bus + metro due to traffic jams. But of course the advantage is the ability to travel anywhere without changing trains, especially if you have large luggage.

Fares from LGA to Manhattan and other boroughs are calculated by the taxi meter.

  • Midtown Manhattan (Times Square) - 40 usd
  • Lower Manhattan - 45 usd
  • Brooklyn - 40 usd
  • Queens - 15 usd

Taxis can be paid for with cash or card and there are taxi stands outside all terminals.

You can also use Uber or Bolt, but the prices are usually the same or even higher than traditional yellow cabs.

Car rental

If you are only traveling to New York, use public transportation exclusively, which works great in the city. A car would only be a burden.

However, if you want to go anywhere other than New York from Newark Airport, renting a car will already be a very viable option. Long-distance passenger transport in the US doesn't work very well and is very expensive.

Weekly rental prices start at 270 usd.
