Most travellers choose to take a taxi from the airport to Nairobi city centre, or ideally use the mobile apps Uber or Bolt, which work well in Nairobi.
The cheapest way to get to the city centre is by local bus line 34, which is not very popular with tourists due to the lack of information and long journey times.
Choose the best hotel in central Nairobi
Taxi / Uber / Bolt
The easiest and safest transport to downtown Nairobi is a taxi via the mobile app Uber or Bolt, which you can hail to both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
The price is calculated according to the current demand and ranges between 650 kes and 740 kes.
Regular yellow taxis must always be booked at the special counters in the arrivals hall. On the way to the airport, you can call a taxi through your hotel or by waving on the street, but in this case you run the risk of being overcharged several times.
Taxis to central Nairobi cost around 850 kes to 900 kes.
Rent a car
If you want to explore Kenya on your own and venture outside of Nairobi, we highly recommend renting a car right at the airport.
The car rental counters are located in the garages in the middle of the airport grounds, about a 3-minute walk from each section of Terminal 1. Prices for weekly rentals start at 330 usd.
City bus
Terminal 1 is connected to the city centre (main bus station) by KBS bus line 34J. Unfortunately, the company' s website does not provide any relevant information.
You can view a map of line 34J on Moovitapp, for example.
The bus stops are not marked in any way. Line 34 runs at a frequency of 15-20 minutes from about 6:30 to 21:30 and you can only buy a ticket for 50 kes with cash from the conductor inside the bus.
