There is no standard public transport in Lomé, so taxis or the local mobile app Gozem are the only options for around 4,000 West African francs.
Taxi / Gozem
Official taxis are waiting outside the terminal. They are always paid directly to the taxi driver, and we recommend going really all the way out in front of the terminal and only going with the taxi driver waiting by his car. Ignore offers of a lift from people waiting in the arrivals hall.
There can be a shortage of taxis at peak arrival times around midday, and you could be waiting well over 30 minutes for a car.
While international apps like Uber, Careem or Bolt don't work in Lomé, you can use the very similar local app Gozem.
We recommend signing up for the app before you leave and putting some money in for your first ride. You will need an internet connection to use the app.
Prices through the app tend to be similar to taxis, but the advantage is that you don't have to pay in cash, but with credit inserted into the app.
The normal price of a taxi/Goz to the centre of Lomé is around 4,000 CFA.
Car rental
If you dare to brave the lively African traffic and want to venture out on your own without a driver, there are also several international car rental companies operating right at Lomé airport.
Prices for 1 week are around 380 usd.
