Transportation from Lanzarote Airport

Charco Verde

There are many car rental agencies at the airport, and public buses from all major resorts reach the terminal.

Car rental

If you want to explore Lanzarote as much as possible, it is best to rent a car upon arrival at the airport, where all the car rental companies operating on the island are located.

Weekly rental prices range from approx. 170 eur depending on the season and current availability of cars. Read our in-depth article on car hire in Lanzarote for specific tips on car rental companies and operations in Lanzarote.

Buses

The island has a fairly well-developed bus network, and if you intend to spend time mainly on the beaches and in the towns, then buses will do the trick. Public transport on the island is operated by a single carrier, InterCity Bus Lanzarote, whose official website is arrecifebus.com.

Bus stops can be found on the 1st floor in front of the departure hall of Terminal 1 and about 75 metres to the right of Terminal 2.

Direction Arrecife and Playa Honda

There are two services to the capital and the nearby resort of Playa Honda, approximately 1-2 times per hour.

The first services from the centre leave at around 5:45am, an hour later on weekends. From the airport to the centre, the last buses leave at 22:55 (weekdays) or 22:17 (weekends).

The journey to Arrecife takes 15 minutes.

Direction Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca

To the south of the island to the famous resorts of Playa Blanca and Puerto del Carmen, the bus runs twice an hour on weekdays and about once every 2 hours on weekends.

The journey to Puerto del Carmen takes 15 minutes and to Playa Blanca 50 minutes.

  • Line 161 - runs on the main route, most services are marked with this number
  • Line 261 - only 2 services a day, follows the same route as line 161 but does not stop at the "Parada Preferente" stop in Puerto del Carmen
  • Line 61 - only 1 connection a day, follows the same route as line 161 and also stops in the centre of Uga (the journey to Playa Blanca is about 3 minutes longer)

Where to buy tickets and prices

The cheapest tickets can be purchased through the General Bono top-up card, which you buy from the driver. The card itself is free, just tell the driver how much you want to top up (for a week, 15 eur to 20 eur is usually enough, but you can top up the card again and again with the driver).

With the card, you just beep at the reader after telling the driver your destination. Compared to buying individual paper tickets, which you also buy from the driver, you save 10% of the price with the General Bono card.

Ticket prices with / without General Bono card:

  • Arrecife: 1,26 eur / 1,40 eur
  • Puerto del Carmen: 1,26 eur / 1,40 eur
  • Playa Blanca: 2,97 eur / 3,30 eur
  • Playa Honda: 1,26 eur / 1,40 eur

Taxi

Only official taxis run to the airport, apps like Uber or Bolt don't work here. Prices are fixed and the meters are automatically switched on, scams on tourists are quite rare.

To get to Arrecife, pay 15 eur between 10pm and 6am at night and all day on Sundays + public holidays. The rest of the week approx 13 eur. A similar price awaits you when going to Puerto del Carmen.
