Getting from Havana Airport

Havana

There is no public transport directly to the airport or to either terminal. There are no car rental services available at the airport.

Taxi

Taxis are the only practical option for getting to the city centre.

No mobile apps work in Cuba and taxis are not equipped with meters.

Prices are very high and there is not much room for haggling on the way from the airport. Going from the centre to the airport you have a slightly better chance of knocking the price down by at least 5 cuc.

You shouldn't pay more than 30 cuc.

A trip to Plaza de la Revolucion, where the main bus station is also located, shouldn't cost more than 25 cuc.

Many taxi drivers will charge a per person amount, but this is not the norm. If the taxi driver wants a per person amount and not for the whole car, refuse the ride and find another taxi.

The availability of taxis is good at all hours of the day and night outside both Terminal 2 and 3.

Viazul buses

Modern tourist buses designed especially for tourists also serve Havana Airport and offer a slightly cheaper alternative to taxis.

You can even buy tickets for these buses online via the official website viazul.wetransp.com.

The buses only stop at Terminal 3.

Viazul buses are the only public transport option between cities. They operate modern air-conditioned cars and travelling with them is the most reliable option, although even here you have to expect frequent delays or even cancelled services due to lack of diesel.

Public transport bus

If you have enough time and courage, you can still get to the airport by public bus. Please note that this option is only recommended for true enthusiasts who do not travel with large luggage.

Buses pass along the "Avenida Rancho Boyeros" highway about 200 meters from Terminal 2 and about 3.5 km from Terminal 3.

Near the intersection you will find a bus stop for the P12 and P16 bus lines that go to the centre of Havana (Plaza de Revolucion).

The ticket costs 1 cup, so about 0 eur, you pay on the bus to the conductor at the front door. If you only have CUC currency, you pay 5 cents. However, the conductors only accept coins, so you'll have to change notes somewhere at the airport first, which can be quite tricky.

The buses are very crowded and run very irregularly at intervals of 5 to 30 minutes, and more than 60 minutes on Sundays.

If you're heading to the airport, it only makes sense to take the bus in the morning and morning, and only in the afternoon and evening when the buses are free.
