To Geneva

The fastest way to get to central Geneva is by train. Buses and trolleybuses offer direct connections to several parts of the city without changing trains.

Fares are the same for all TPG transport (buses, trolleybuses, trams, boats) and trains around Geneva (CFF/SBB).

Free fare for the whole stay

Geneva public transport is free for all travellers staying in registered accommodation (hotels, hostels, campsites, guesthouses).

Most hotels will automatically send a free digital fare via QR code after booking (including portals like booking.com). If the hotel does not send the ticket, please contact them directly with a request.

The free ticket cannot be used if you are staying via Couchsurfing, Airbnb or even at a friend or relative's home. You also cannot use the free fare if you stay in cheaper hotels in France.

The free fare is valid for as long as you stay in Geneva.

Official information can be found at: geneve.com/free-transport.

Free for all travellers, including those not staying in a hotel in Geneva at all, are the special morning Aerobus services which only run in the direction of the airport between 4:00 and 5:30am, see details below.

Free single fares

You can also buy a free single ticket for 80 minutes to get anywhere in Geneva from the TPG ticket machine in the baggage claim area.

Regular fares

If you are not staying in Geneva, or if you are staying in unregistered accommodation, you will need to travel at the normal fare.

Tickets can be purchased from a machine at the bus stop or station, or via the TPG mobile app.

  • 3 chf - transfer for 60 minutes
  • 10 chf - All-day for the whole of Geneva (zone 10) valid on calendar day only (there is a discounted option for 8 chf valid from 9:00)

For the complete price list, please visit: tpg.ch/en/ticket-fares.

If travelling from Geneva to neighbouring French cities, you must pay a special Léman Pass fare, even if you can use the free fare around Geneva itself.

Tickets to neighbouring municipalities are always valid for 90 minutes and cost from 3,40 chf to 3,80 chf depending on the specific municipality and zone.

Train

The fastest way to get to the centre is by train, which runs non-stop to the main station at Genéve Cornavin and on via Genéve-Sécheron to other Swiss destinations.

From the airport to the centre, you can take any train with any destination and any category.

  • Travel time - 7 minutes
  • Frequency - 5 to 20 minutes
  • Price - 3 chf or free if the hotel sends a free ticket
  • Last train from the airport - 0:10
  • First train from Geneva station - 4:50

Bus/trolleybus TPG

The airport is also served by several bus and trolleybus routes to the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods. Detailed information, maps and timetables on the website: tpg.ch/en

Although the bus service is slightly longer than the train, the number of lines means that the frequency between services is significantly shorter.

The bus stop is next to the train station.

All services are free, even for passengers not staying in a registered hotel in Geneva.

The routes are marked A1 - A6 and detailed timetables and maps can be found on the website: tpg.ch/airport-shuttle.

See below for a map of all bus, trolleybus and train routes. Click on the individual lines for details.

Rent a car

If Geneva Airport serves as a starting point for trips to the Alps or the Jura Mountains, it's worth considering renting a car.

Rental prices for a week in summer or winter season are around 360 chf.

The car rental offices of many international companies are located right in the arrivals hall.

Trains to the whole of Switzerland

You can take the train directly from the airport station to not only the centre of Geneva but also to many destinations in Switzerland without changing trains.

Timetables and online ticketing can be found on the Swiss Railways website sbb.ch or, at no extra cost, on thetrainline.com. It is always worth buying tickets at least 14 days in advance.

The most expensive tickets are always bought just before departure at the station.
