Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz

The town of Puerto de la Cruz was originally a small fishing village, which began to develop after the last volcanic activity in 1706. As it is located on the northern coast, where it rains more, you will be surprised by the ubiquitous greenery.

Puerto de la Cruz offers a unique atmosphere, a pleasant climate and fascinating beaches with black volcanic sand and beautiful views of the Teide Mountains.

Beaches and swimming

The most beautiful beaches in Puerto de la Cruz lie to the east of the town centre. These are the trio of beaches Playa del Castillo, Playa Chia and Playa María Jimenez, which are effectively combined into one 700-metre-long beach of fine black sand.

You can rent sun loungers and umbrellas and use the adjacent beach bars and restaurants.

The natural black volcanic beaches below the cliffs to the east of the town are also beautiful. In particular, Playa El Bollullo, Playa Los Patos and Playa del Ancón. However, they can only be reached conveniently by car.

Lago Martiánez swimming pool

A very popular place to swim is the large artificial swimming pool in the west of the city, which is, however, filled with seawater. Here you can swim in 7 different pools of different sizes, the largest of which is called El Lago, about 80x100 meters. You can also take advantage of freshwater showers, many restaurants and bars and other services.

Tickets for adults cost 5,50 eur, children pay 2,50 eur. For more information visit the official website of the swimming pool.
