Lagoa Branca is a shallow lake in a former volcanic caldera on a plateau in the middle of the island at an altitude of about 650 metres.
Compared to the nearby lakes Negra and Comprida, Lagoa Branca has a completely different appearance. It lies in an orphaned landscape of low vegetation and its shores are very gentle.
The best vantage point of the lake is on the road connecting the centre of the island with the village of Ponta Delgada to the north - see map.
On the other side, the PR3FLO marked walking route runs around the lagoon, which is described more in the Activities section.
