The wine and farming region of Val d'Orcia is one of the most beautiful places in the whole of Italy, and also one of the most famous examples in art.
The picturesque landscape of vineyards, cypress avenues and gently rolling hills was chosen by many artists, not only in the Renaissance, as a model for their paintings.
Since 2004, Val d'Orcia has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique wine culture.
The Val d'Orcia region stretches south of Siena and particularly beckons for aimless road-trips by car, wandering through vineyards and relaxed evenings in idyllically peaceful landscapes.
The most beautiful viewpoints in the Val d'Orcia
The most iconic viewpoint is located near the town of Asciano on an undulating road lined with a cypress avenue. For a detailed description of this place, see the Asciano mini-guide.
Another well-known viewpoint can be found less than 2 km from the town of San Quirico. From the edge of the main road (see map), you have a wonderful view of the Belvedere farm surrounded by mature cypress trees and the beautiful hilly landscape of the surrounding area. From this vantage point, the preview photo of this page comes through.
