The Colossus of the Apennines is an extremely interesting and monumental sculpture located in the Pratolino Medicean Park about 16 km north of the centre of Florence.
The naturalistic sculpture depicts a larger-than-life male figure that is meant to represent the Apennine Mountains forming the entire northern border of Tuscany.
The statue was created in 1580 by Jean de Boulogne. It measures over 11 metres in height.
