The Alexander III Bridge is one of the most beautiful and famous in Paris. In particular, it boasts four massive supports, which had to be built because the bridge, despite its small height, forms only a single arch, creating an extreme horizontal thrust.
On each side, two decorative columns with golden sculpture capitals rise to a height of 17 metres and attract attention from a distance.
Even the steel bridge deck itself is decorated with white and gold ornaments and decorative lanterns.
The bridge was built in 1900 on the occasion of the world construction. Construction had begun 4 years earlier in the presence of Russian Tsar Nicholas I, son of Alexander III, after whom the bridge is named as a testament to the Franco-Russian friendship of the time. The bridge connects the large square in front of the Invalides with the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais on the other side of the Seine.
