Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport in a nutshell

Namibia

The international airport in the Namibian capital Windoek is the main gateway to the country and is almost 50 kilometres from the city due to its hilly terrain.

Hosea Kutako, a national hero and one of the leaders of Namibia's struggle for independence, is the person after whom the airport is named.

Tickets to Windhoek are available mainly from several foreign airlines:

  • Lufthansa.com (flights operated by Discover Airlines) - Frankfurt, Munich
  • Ethiopian.com - Addis Ababa (and many connecting flights to Europe, Asia, Africa and North America)
  • Airlink - Johannesburg, Cape Town
  • South African Airways - Johannesburg (and connecting flights to other African destinations)
  • TAAG - Luanda (and often convenient connecting flights to Lisbon, Porto or Sao Paulo)

Practically right in the centre of the city is another airport, Windhoek Eros ERS, which serves on average only 1-2 domestic flights per day.
