Public transport buses

The bus station is located at approximately 100 metres from the international arrivals and 350 metres from the domestic terminal.

Between the terminal and the bus stops, you will find a comfortable waiting area with an information board, seats, outlets and a vending machine with drinks.

Information at the stops is mostly in Chinese, but at least the destinations and main stops are also in English.

Tickets

The ticketing system is the same on all lines. Fares are set according to distance and you will pay around TWD 45 to the centre of Taichung. A ticket to the express train station costs 55 twd.

Pay the fare in exact cash at the driver. However, it is much more convenient to pay with a pre-loaded EasyCard, which can be used on all public and regional transport systems throughout Taiwan.

The EasyCard costs 100 twd (refundable deposit) and you load the amount of your choice directly onto the card when you purchase it.

You can purchase an EasyCard at the airport at the FamilyMart (open until 7pm only). After this time, the EasyCard cannot be purchased at the airport and you must pay for your fare in cash.

Visit the website to view the timetable, exact ticket prices and a current map: citybus.taichung.gov.tw and select a specific route number from the drop-down menu.

Taichung - downtown

There are two bus routes from the airport to downtown Taichung - 302 and 500. Both stop at the central bus station and at the "Taichung" station, where regular slow trains stop.

  • Travel time - 45 minutes
  • Frequency - 30 minutes for both lines, 5-20 minutes total
  • Fares - 57 twd (line 302) / 60 twd (line 500)

  • Last bus from the airport - 22:45

Taichung - express train station

A direct bus also runs to the "HSR Taichung" station in the southern suburbs, where THSR high-speed trains to Taipei and Kaohsiung stop.

Line 156 runs at intervals of 80 to 120 minutes and fares cost 55 twd.

The first bus from the station leaves at 5:30am and the last bus from the airport leaves at 11pm.

Taxi is a convenient way to travel to the city centre for groups of travellers or when travelling with large luggage.

Taxi stands can be found in the basement of the International Hall and plenty of cars are available for each arrival.

The price is calculated by the taxi meter and you will pay between TWD 580 and TWD 750 to the city centre depending on the current traffic situation. Payment can only be made in cash.

You can also hail a regular taxi via the Uber mobile app, where you can of course pay with cash.
