Taichung Airport has 2 terminals connected by one long and narrow building.
- Domestic - only handles flights within Taiwan, i.e. to the island of Taiwan and the smaller islands of Penghu, Kinmen, Matsu (Beigan and Nangan)
- International - handles all flights outside Taiwan, including flights to mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau
You can move between terminals via the inner concourse in about a 2-minute walk.
The airport is compact, modern and very well signposted.
Queues for immigration control upon arrival usually reach 15-20 minutes.
Transfer between flights
Taichung is not typically a transfer airport.
This is also why the airport is not equipped with a direct transfer transit zone except for the domestic terminal
- Domestic <-> Domestic - no checkpoint, no need to leave the transit area, transfer usually takes up to 5 minutes
- International <-> International - you have to pass through passport control, leave the transit area and go through passport and security again for departures, transfer takes up to 45 minutes
- International <-> Domestic - you must pass through immigration and security and always leave the transit area, transfer usually takes up to 50 minutes
