Although Stuttgart Airport formally has 4 terminals, in reality it is one medium-sized building.
The division into terminals is effectively a division into sectors of one building. You can walk the entire airport from terminal 1 to terminal 4 in about 5 minutes.

The transit area (airside) is common to all terminals. Therefore, you can go through any security checkpoint.
Transfer between flights
Stuttgart Airport is very popular and easy to find for transfers.
Because you never have to change buildings, transfers are quick and the actual transfer time between planes rarely takes more than 20 minutes.
If you are checking in for your next flight, you don't have to leave the transit area.
Checks during transfer
What checks will you go through when changing planes in Stuttgart?
- Schengen <-> Schengen: no check
- Schengen -> Non-Schengen: passport control
- Non-Schengen -> Schegnen: passport and security check
- Non-Schengen -> Non-Schegnen: security check
Overnight in the terminal - opening hours
The public area of the terminal is open 24/7 and there are quite a few seats without backrests on which you can lie down.
However, there are quite often homeless people in the airport during the night and the terminal may not be very quiet for sleeping.
Hotels near the airport
For an undisturbed night's sleep before an early morning departure, we recommend using one of the nearby hotels.
There are two hotels right next to the terminals (within a 3-minute walk):
In the adjacent district of Echterdingen you will find a few cheaper hotels, but they do not offer their own shuttle to the airport, so you have to take the S-Bahn one station away.
The first train from this station to the airport leaves at 4:55.
