Transfer at Sao Paulo Guarulhos Airport

Sao Paulo

Guarulhos has three terminals - 1, 2 and 3. Terminals 2 and 3 are interconnected by transit and public areas.

Terminal 1 is a separate building near the train station, and you have to use the free shuttle bus to get to Terminals 2 and 3.

Which terminal?

The terminals are divided into domestic and international. Domestic flights are further divided between the two terminals by airline.

  • Terminal 1, the smallest building with the fewest services, is located near the train station and exclusively serves domestic flights of the following airlines:
    • Azul
  • Terminal 2 - formerly the main terminal, rich in services and connected to Terminal 3 by a corridor:
    • Gol
    • LATAM
    • Voepass
  • Terminal 3 - the newest building handles all international flights

Transfer between flights

If you are going to make a non-guaranteed connection in Sao Paulo (i.e. two different separately purchased tickets), allow a minimum of 5 hours for your transfer. Especially domestic flights within Brazil are often delayed or even cancelled.

Guaranteed transfers are very clearly signposted and always take place within the same building, or between terminals 2 and 3, which are connected by an internal pedestrian corridor.

International <-> International

When transferring between two international flights, you will always stay in Terminal 3. Maximum walking distances will be within 10 minutes.

There is no immigration check, but you will go through a security check designed exclusively for transfer passengers.

  • Average transfer time - 15-25 minutes
  • Baggage on transfer - will be transferred automatically

International -> Domestic

Upon exiting the aircraft, you will need to walk towards the gate and immigration control. After that you will collect your luggage and according to the signs you will walk about 15 minutes to Terminal 2 where you will check in and go through security.

You can also use the free shuttle bus, but walking is faster.

  • Average transfer time - 60-90 minutes
  • Baggage on transfer - you must collect and re-check in

Domestic -> International

When you exit the plane at Terminal 2, you remain in the transit area and walk through the corridor to Terminal 3. Here, you will go through security and passport control specifically for transfer passengers.

There are no long queues.

  • Average transfer time - 30-45 minutes
  • Transfer baggage - will be transferred automatically

Domestic <-> Domestic

Upon exiting the aircraft, you will find yourself directly in the departure gate area. The transfer takes place either within Terminal 2 or within Terminal 1 (in the case of Azul).

There is no security check.

  • Average transfer time - 5-15 minutes
  • Transfer baggage - will be transferred automatically

Transfer between terminals

If you need to move between terminals via the public area, you can use the free green shuttle buses.

These run at approximately 10-15 minute intervals from 4:00 to 0:00.

You can also walk between terminals 2 and 3 via the inner corridor (10-15 minutes).

Overnight in the terminal - opening hours

All terminals are open 24/7. The most comfortable seats and the most space are in International Terminal 3, but even here there are only seats with armrests, which are not comfortable to sleep on.

In addition, all terminals tend to be very busy even during the night.

Hotels near the airport

For early morning departures, we recommend staying overnight in a hotel near the airport.

Transit hotels

Inside the transit area of Terminal 3, you can stay in a hotel during a long layover. TRYP BY WYNDHAM São Paulo Airport - Hotel de Transito Terminal 3 ****.

Access to this hotel is for international passengers only and entry is from the transit area only.

Hotels in the terminal

Terminal 2 has two simple hotels directly inside the building, but access to them is instead only from the public area. They are therefore accessible to everyone, not just passengers.

Hotels in the area

There are several other hotels close to the airport - within a 15-minute hotel shuttle ride - that usually offer lower rates than hotels right in the terminal.

We only select well-rated hotels with free private airport shuttle service:
