There are two terminals at Juan Santamaría Airport in San José. The larger, more modern and fully serviced one serves all international flights.
A small ground-floor building about 250 metres from the international terminal serves all domestic flights within Costa Rica.
You can walk between the terminals on the sidewalk in 5 minutes.
The airport is modern and well-organised and you only need to arrive 2 hours before your departure time.
Transfer between flights
San Jose serves as a regional transfer point between flights within Central America and for connecting long-haul flights to other Central American countries.
You will go through security at the transfer, but you do not have to leave the transit area (you do not go through passport control).
The terminal is small and the transfer is well organised. You can usually get between planes in about 45 minutes.
If you are connecting from an international to a domestic flight or vice versa, you must always pick up your luggage and go through immigration.
Exit the terminal and walk approximately 250 metres along the pavement to the second terminal.
