Immigration control and tourist card
Lines for immigration control tend to be short and rarely last more than 30 minutes.
The immigration check itself usually consists only of asking how long you will be staying in the Dominican Republic.
In the past, a special tourist card had to be paid for on arrival, but nowadays the fee for the tourist card is included in the price of all airline tickets. So you do not have to make any arrangements or pay anything upon arrival.
Transfer between flights
Punta Cana is not a typical connecting airport, but it still offers a convenient transfer between flights to the point where you have everything on one booking and don't have to deal with re-checking your luggage.
In case you have purchased your tickets separately and combine the transfer at Punta Cana Airport on your own, you always have to go through immigration and collect your luggage. Then check in again and go through security back to the transit area.
