Kochi Airport has 2 terminals for general passengers and one terminal for VIP flights.

Both main terminals are relatively small and outdated and tend to be crowded at certain times of the day. However, the signage is clear and the airport is medium sized, so distances to planes are at most a 5-7 minute walk from security.

• Terminal 1 handles all domestic flights within India
• Terminal 3 handles all international flights

Terminal 2 serves VIP flights.

Terminals 1 and 3 are approximately 100 metres apart and the only way to cross between the buildings is via the public landside on a covered walkway.

Transfer between flights

Cochin is not one of the main transfer points, but the airport is busy enough that you can still get a transfer here, especially with IndiGo or Air India.

Domestic <-> Domestic

Follow the "Transfer" signs, which will take you from the baggage claim area to the right to security and on to the departure gates.

International <-> International

The International Terminal has a direct transit option so you do not have to leave the transit area.

Follow the "International Transfer" signage which will lead you to security and then straight to the departure gates. There is no immigration check.

International <-> Domestic

When transferring from an international flight to a domestic flight or vice versa, you must always exit the transit area, go outside to the public area, collect your baggage and move to the other terminal.

The distance between terminals is a maximum of 5 minutes walking distance.

When transferring from an international to a domestic flight, you must always collect your baggage and check it in again.

On the reverse transfer from domestic to international, the baggage may be transferred automatically. However, always check this situation when you check in at your point of departure.

Overnight in the terminal - opening hours

The airport remains open 24/7. However, you will only be admitted into the building upon presentation of your ticket or boarding pass, and staff will often refuse to admit passengers who have a departure in more than 5 hours.

As a practical matter, you can stay overnight at the airport for a long layover, for example, but there are minimal comfortable seats in the public area.

Moreover, both terminals are very busy throughout the night.

With most search portals such as booking.com or agoda.com, beware that many local private accommodations are shown on the map with a location right at the airport. In reality, these accommodations are often more than 5 km from the airport.
