Getting from Inverness Airport

Loch Ness

The airport is accessible by bus lines 11 and 10A, which stop right outside the terminal, or by train, which is about 1,300 metres away on foot.

The airport also has a large number of car rental agencies.

Car rental

If you want to discover the beauty of Scotland and aren't just heading to Loch Ness, hiring a car is by far the best option for travelling around the Scottish countryside.

In the summer season, a small car can be hired for 7 days from 245 gbp. Larger SUVs can be rented for a week from 340 gbp.

Compare prices and book a car

Some car rental counters are right in the terminal and parking lot. These rental companies have parking lots where you pick up your car, on the left about 100 meters from the terminal.

  • Car rental companies directly in the terminal - Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz, National

Other car rental companies have their counters further away from the airport and free shuttle buses run to them from a stop marked with a car and key pictogram about 150 metres to the right of the terminal.

  • Car rental companies outside the terminal - Arnold Clark, Car Hire Hebrides, HVR Highland Vehicle Rentals, Sixt

Public transport

The airport is accessible by bus and train.

Buses

Buses are more practical as the bus stop is right outside the terminal.

Bus route 11 runs past the airport, connecting Inverness city centre, where you can change to frequent buses to Loch Ness, and the town of Nairn to the east of the airport.

Lines 10A, 10B, 27 also use the same route to Inverness city centre.

Tickets can be purchased from the driver by card or cash or via the Stagecoach mobile app.

  • 6,50 gbp - 1 ride
  • 9,50 gbp - return ticket usable at any time during the 28 days
  • 9,20 gbp - 1 day ticket for all routes within Inverness City Zone + Inverness Zone 2 (this ticket is also valid for travel to Drumnadrochit on Loch Ness)

Train

The train station is 1,300 metres from the terminal along a well-marked and lit pedestrian walkway.

All trains on the Inverness - Nairn - Elgin - Keith - Aberdeen route stop at 'Inverness Airport' station.

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machine at the station, but it may be more cost-effective to buy 1 day to 3 weeks in advance via thetrainline.com.

Taxi / Uber

There is a classic taxi rank directly outside the terminal, waiting for each scheduled arrival.

If there happens to be no cars available, the phone numbers for local taxi companies are listed by the shelter.

Taxi fares to Inverness are around 30 gbp and can usually only be paid by card.

Uber is available in Inverness and tends to be cheaper than taxis, but waiting times are often over 30 minutes.
