The terminal is only accessible by taxi or rental car. Despite its importance and size, there is no public transport to the airport.
Taxi, Uber, Bolt
To get to Cape Town city centre, we recommend using Uber or Bolt, which are very popular and safe in South Africa.
Both Uber and Bolt have 24/7 availability of cars at the airport and in the city.
While regular taxis officially run on a metered basis, especially when travelling to the airport, it can be easy for a taxi driver to negotiate an individual price that is unfavourable to you.
How to book a taxi?
The most widely used apps are Uber (available at: uber.com) or Bolt (available at bolt.eu).
Ideally, you should book your car after you exit the airport concourse. Waiting time is usually 5-10 minutes. If you don't want to spend time buying a local sim card upon arrival, purchase an electronic sim card before you fly to South Africa without worrying about airalo.com.
Taxi fares
Prices on the Uber and Bolt apps are dynamic and depend on demand. Here are examples of average prices to specific locations from the airport.
- Historic centre and train stations: 200 zar
- Sea Point: 220 zar
- Camps Bay: 230 zar
- Woodbrigde: 200 zar
- Fish Hoek: 320 zar
- Simon's Town: 350 zar
Rent a car
South Africa, with its network of quality long-distance roads, is an ideal destination for road-trippers. For example, head to the famous Garden Route or the national parks.
In addition, rental companies in South Africa have little or no charges for one-way rentals (i.e. return at another airport).
Weekly rental prices for medium-sized cars start at around 230 eur.
Bus
The city centre used to be served by the A01 bus line of local carrier MyCiTi.
However, the line to the airport was cancelled in 2022 and no route stops within walking distance of the terminal.
