If you're heading out to explore Alberta or neighbouring British Columbia, renting a car is the number one choice.

There's either no or very limited public transport to the mountains and countryside.

Calgary Airport has a wide range of car rental companies, with dozens of different companies based here.

The average price for a week's rental in the summer season is around 350 cad. We recommend booking a car at least 3 months in advance.

Prices are based on a taximeter and are calculated by combining distance and time travelled. The price is therefore higher during congestion.

The normal price to Downtown is between 45 cad and 50 cad.

Uber, Lyft

Calgary has mobile apps like Uber and Lyft that can offer a lower price than regular taxis.

For example, Downtown is usually available for around 30 cad.

Cars using mobile apps stop at the arrivals level, but during high traffic times, cars can only stop on the 1st floor near departures. The pickup location will always be listed on the app.
