Transfer at Adelaide Airport

Kangaroo in Australia

Adelaide Airport operates only one medium-sized and very uncluttered terminal.

The longest walking distance from security to the aircraft is approximately 7 minutes.

The terminal serves both domestic and international flights. The security checkpoint is common to all flights. Immediately after, you will be in the transit area for domestic flights, from which a passport control corridor leads to departure gates 16, 17 and 18, which serve international flights.

Once an international flight arrives, immigration control tends to be very quick and efficient, and for travellers from most countries around the world, simply retrieve your passport at the automated kiosk.

Transfer between flights

Adelaide is the most pleasant transfer point of all Australian airports.

The terminal is very clear and the distances short.

Below we describe the procedures in case you have purchased all flights as one booking (guaranteed transfer).

International <-> International

If you arrive from another country and continue on to another country (for example Dubai - Adelaide - Auckland), you do not have to leave the transit zone at all and therefore do not have to process an electronic entry permit to enter Australia.

When you get off the plane, follow the signs "International Transit", which will lead you to the transit counters (which you will only visit if you do not already have a connecting boarding pass) and security check.

  • Average transfer time - 15 to 25 minutes
  • Baggage on transfer - will be transferred automatically
  • Security check - yes
  • Immigration check / visa required - no

International -> Domestic

Upon arrival, you must go through immigration control, collect your luggage, go through customs and exit to the public area.

Queues for immigration control are usually between 5 and 15 minutes.

You then proceed to the departure level to check in for your domestic flight.

  • Average transfer time - 30 to 45 minutes
  • Baggage on transfer - you must collect and re-check in
  • Security check - yes
  • Immigration check / visa required - yes

Domestic -> International

Once off the plane, follow the signs "International Transit", which will lead you to the public area of the airport.

You will then proceed to the security check, followed by a quick immigration check at gates 16, 17 and 18.

  • Average transfer time - 15 to 35 minutes
  • Baggage on transfer - will be transferred automatically
  • Security check - yes
  • Immigration check / visa required - yes

National <-> National

You don't have to leave the transit area at all as you get off the plane straight into the departure gate area.

  • Average transfer time - 5 to 10 minutes
  • Baggage on transfer - will be transferred automatically
  • Security check - no

If you were to make a transfer on your own and had to change terminals, then you would need to exit the transit area, check in again and go through security to the departure gates.

Overnight in the terminal - opening hours

The public area of the airport is open from 3:15-23:30.

The airport closes completely overnight and it is not possible to stay overnight in the terminal.

Hotels near the airport

For long layovers or before an early morning flight, stay conveniently near the airport.
