Air New Zealand Lounge at Melbourne Airport

I visited the Air New Zealand lounge at Melbourne Airport in March 2025 while travelling in business class on Air India.
Lounge opening hours and location
The Air New Zealand Lounge is located in International Terminal 2 after passing through security at Melbourne MEL.
The lounge is located on the ground floor approximately a 4-minute walk from the security checkpoint and can be accessed by lift or escalator. It is located near departure gates 4-8.
Opening hours are 5:00 am to midnight.
Entrance - who has access to the lounge
The Air New Zealand Melbourne Lounge is only available to premium class (business and first class) passengers of the following airlines and holders of Gold and above status (or equivalent):
- All Star Alliance airlines
For airline passengers, the lounge stay is unlimited.
Credit card holders or holders of Revolut, DragonPass, Lounge Key or Priority Pass cards are not allowed in the lounge.

Lounge size and overall ambience
Air New Zealand's lounge is medium in size and is decorated in pleasant greys, whites and pinks.
As it is located on the very ground floor, the view of the airport apron is very limited.
Even at busy times (most early morning and mid-morning) there is no problem finding an available seat.
The lounge has comfortable chairs, quiet areas and a bar.
I rate the lack of dining tables with seats as a big drawback. While there are tables at all the chairs, you will always eat in a rather unnatural position.
The food and drink offer
The lounge excels in offering healthy and meat-free dishes. In general, the food selection here is rather average, maybe even below average, but if you follow a healthy lifestyle, you won't be disappointed.
There is only one food counter in the Air New Zealand Lounge, where there are always several types of salads, fruits, vegetables, cheeses or nuts.
There are usually 3-4 hot dishes to choose from, but usually only one with meat.
The selection of non-alcoholic beverages is rather weak. There are always 3 types of juice, water, iced tea and post-mix drinks.
There are no bottled or canned drinks on offer.
There are coffee machines in a few places.
The selection of alcoholic beverages is very poor, consisting of only a few wines, beers and sparkling wine.
Lounge facilities
What other facilities and amenities does the Air New Zealand lounge offer?
Showers
A shower before a night long-haul flight is always an extremely welcome refreshment and showers are available in the lounge.
There are quite a lot of showers and they don't have a waiting list as is usual in busier lounges, which is very nice.
Exceptionally, you can wait for a free shower, but usually no longer than 10 minutes.
The showers themselves are great though - very spacious and immaculately cleaned. Of course, towels, soaps and shampoos are provided free of charge.
Wi-fi
Internet access is available via free wi-fi.
Connect to the "AirNz Lounge" network. The internet speed is very good suitable for playing and downloading videos.
Charging plugs
Plugs for charging electronics are available with most chairs.
All plugs are "Australian" type I only.
Desktop with computer and printer
The Air New Zealand Lounge does not have any dedicated work surfaces and working with a laptop here is therefore very uncomfortable.
Children's corners
There are no play areas or toys for children in the Air New Zealand Melbourne Lounge.
Conclusion and my review
Overall, Air New Zealand Melbourne is an average lounge ideally suited for an hour or two before a flight.
I rate the showers very positively with no or short wait times.
The healthy food selection is also great, on the other hand if you like lots of sweets, cold cuts and lots of hot food you will be disappointed in this lounge.
Other than comfortable seating, showers and internet, the Air New Zealand Lounge offers virtually no entertainment options.
