Most of the tourist attractions are concentrated around the town of Tam Coc within a radius of about 20 kilometres. A rented scooter or bicycle is best for transport between the sites, unfortunately there is no public transport to the tourist sites.
You can also easily get around Tam Coc by taxi.

Rent a scooter
The area around Tam Coc is best explored by scooter, the distances are not great, the traffic is also not that wild by Vietnamese standards and there is no public transport.
Where to rent a scooter and what are the prices?
There are scooters for hire on literally every corner in Tam Coc, every accommodation and travel agency you pass will offer them. The advantage of renting a scooter from an accommodation is that you usually won't have to put down a deposit.
You can rent a small scooter in Tam Coc from as little as 100 000 vnd per day. Better and more powerful scooters then cost between 150,000 and 200 000 vnd.
What to look out for?
Before renting, always check the condition of the scooter you are renting and take a video of its current condition so that if there are any problems, you have proof that you did not cause the faults on the scooter.
Never leave a passport as a deposit for a hire scooter, always opt for a cash deposit instead.
In the Ninh Binh area near tourist spots, many stallholders and restaurateurs operate unofficial parking spots, often charging much more for parking than at official spots. Although they will try to jump in your way and stop you, try to drive as close to the sight as possible and park in an official parking lot. The normal price for parking is 10 - 15 000 vnd.
Rent a bike
Renting a bike is also a very popular option. Bicycles are available from many hostels and travel agencies for an almost symbolic price, with rentals usually costing between 50 - 80 000 vnd per day.
If you just want to visit nearby attractions, you can certainly go by bike, plus the roads are very often flat, so the ride is not that difficult. For a trip to the Van Long Nature Reserve or Cuc Phuong National Park, a bike is not suitable as some parts of the road are also on motorways and busier roads.
Taxi
If you don't want to rent a scooter or bike, you can use taxis to travel between destinations. Always agree on a price for the whole journey before getting into a taxi, or check that the driver has the meter on.
On average, the price for a one kilometre taxi ride should not exceed 10 000 vnd.
Unfortunately, the Grab mobile app, which can be used in other parts of Vietnam, is virtually non-operational in the Tam Coc area.
