Culture
If you're travelling for culture, then London is sure to dazzle you with its plethora of galleries, concerts and theatres. Plenty of permanent exhibitions at major galleries and museums such as the Tate Modern, British Museum, National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery are free.
You'll pay extra for a good theatre performance, ballet or opera, but even there you can find cheaper options. For example, Shakespeare's The Globe offers standing tickets from 10 gbp.
History
If you're mainly interested in historical sites when you travel, there's certainly plenty to choose from in Britain. The UK offers everything from monuments that remember the Roman Empire, such as Hadrian's Wall or the Roman Baths in Bath, to medieval ruins, castles and palaces, to sites that are fundamental to modern history.
There's a wealth of sights to see in London, of course, but also in Scotland's capital, Edinburgh.
Beaches
Surprisingly, it's not just in southern Europe that you'll find beautiful beaches in Britain.
The classic Brighton is bursting at the seams on a sultry summer's day as it's just an hour by train from central London, but if you have more time and want to relax on the coast, don't hesitate to visit the renowned Cornwall. For example, Newquay with its famous Watergate Bay offers beautiful white sand beaches.
You just have to take into account that the water is really refreshing, rarely exceeding a temperature of 20 degrees.
Mountains and treks
If heights and mountain climbs are more to your liking, head to Scotland or Wales.
The Scottish Highlands offer a wealth of interesting hikes with spectacular views. The UK's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, is located here, and although it's only 1,345 metres high, it's sure to impress with its views. The climb up Ben Nevis is quite long, considering that the trail only starts at about 70m above sea level.
