The extraordinarily long Bang Tao Beach is located near Cherngtalay and attracts visitors with its tranquillity, ample space and luxury resorts that line it.
What to expect from Bang Tao Beach?
Beach amenities
At 6km, Bang Tao Beach is the longest single beach in Phuket and is ideal for all types of travellers.
It is covered in fine white sand and the entrance to the water is extremely comfortable and gradual. At low tide, it can be too gradual, but there is no unsightly seaweed, so the only impractical fact is that you'll be walking a few dozen metres further into the water from the beach.
Particularly in the southern part of the beach there are various water sports on offer, restaurants or sunbed and umbrella hire.
The further north you go, the more natural and secluded the beach becomes, with an extraordinary amount of privacy.
Virtually the entire beach is lined with mature trees that provide welcome shade.
Beachfront accommodation
Along Bang Tao Beach, you'll stay in some of Phuket's most luxurious resorts.
However, you'll also find cheaper local apartments near the southern edge on the border of Cherngtalay and Surin.
What are the best resorts with private beaches?
Transportation to Bang Tao Beach
Many expensive 5-star resorts offer free airport to beach transport, but the beach is publicly accessible to everyone else.
The only way to get directly to the beach is by taxi. Car access via the hotel compound is often not possible and you can only park without problems in town in the southern part of the beach or, conversely, in the very north.
Smart Buses and songtaews from Phuket Town only go along the main road through Cherngtalay and you have to walk through the side streets to the beach (about 1,5 km).
