Playa San Juan

Playa San Juan

Playa San Juan is the name of a beach and a smaller, more intimate resort on the west coast of Tenerife, halfway between the big tourist zone of Los Cristianos + Playa de las Américas + Costa Adeje and Los Gigantes. The clean and tidy smaller town offers all the tourist facilities, but unlike the other resorts on the west of the island, it's predominantly locals, giving it a more authentic and distinctly quieter atmosphere.

Beaches and swimming

The resort boasts pretty and quiet beaches ideal for families with children, and seniors are frequent visitors too. Don't expect raucous late-night parties here, but the main beach that bears the resort's name, Playa San Juan, offers everything from sunbed and umbrella hire, restaurants and bars to showers and toilets. This beach is practically right in the centre of town and is covered in black volcanic sand.

A very popular beach is Playa Abama, situated in a narrow picturesque bay with cliffs and golden sand. It is about 2 km from the town. You can only drive to the free car park by the main road, from where you have to continue on the asphalt road on foot for about 600 metres. About half of the beach is occupied by sun loungers for guests of the adjacent hotel, the rest of the beach can be used by everyone else free of charge. There is also a public restaurant and showers.

Accommodation

The accommodation in Playa San Juan is mainly modern apartments and holiday villas. The lowest prices are around 44 eur per night for 2, the average is between 66 eur and 73 eur.
