Korea War Memorial

War Memorial

The Korean War Memorial is one of the largest museums in the country and one of the most visited. The extensive exhibition is mainly devoted to the Korean War (1950s), but also to other conflicts in which South Korea has ever been involved.

The museum was opened in 1994 on the site of an army headquarters to prevent military conflict through learning from the horrors of wars already fought. The war memorial also carries a second great message, which is the hope for the peaceful reunification of North and South Korea.

What to see at the museum?

The War Memorial is divided into two main areas - indoor and outdoor exhibitions. In total, there are over 13,000 items on display at the museum.

Indoor exhibition

The building has a huge size and the indoor areas are divided into 6 main halls. In them you can admire large military equipment, dioramas, smaller war items and also numerous corners with projection of many very interesting videos.

The halls are divided thematically:

  • Memorial Hall
  • War history.
  • Korean War
  • Expeditionary Force
  • ROK Armed Forces
  • Large military equipment

Inside, the complete military history of Korea from the 14th century to the present day is covered.

Outdoor exhibition

The area directly in front of the main entrance is dedicated to the memory of all the UN countries involved in the Korean War of the 1950s. Special emphasis is placed on the countries whose nationals died in the Korean War.

To the right of the main building you will find a rather large outdoor exhibition of larger military equipment. The crown jewel is a huge B-52 bomber and several dozen other aircraft, helicopters, tanks, armored vehicles and weapons systems.

Admission and opening hours

The museum is closed every Monday. On other days, it is open from 9:30-18:00, with the last entry one hour before closing time.

Admission to the indoor and outdoor exhibitions is free.
