While on one side lies the capital city of Valletta itself with Fort Saint Elmo, on the eastern side you'll come across two other important forts that are among Malta's most famous sites. At the very edge, overlooking the open sea, stands Fort Ricasoli , guarding the entrance to the harbour, while a little further inland, directly opposite Valletta's waterfront, is the massive Fort St. Angelo.

The south shore of Grand Harbour is occupied by the Three Cities, a mix of popular neighbourhoods with beautiful views and tucked-away streets.
