Ramla Bay is undoubtedly the most popular and famous beach on the whole island. You will even see photos of this picturesque sandy beach on most of Malta's promotional material.
The beach is covered with a specific orange-red fine sand, which gradually changes into sand dunes at the back of the beach.
The further east you go, the less people will surround you and the more you can enjoy the surrounding scenery made up of green rocky hills.
Breathtaking views of the beach can be enjoyed from the famous Tal-Mixta cave at the eastern end of the beach or from the parking lot above the western end (location on google.com/maps).
Beach facilities
The beach is an excellent choice for families with children, the entrance to the sea is gradual, the pebbles are minimal.
Directly on the beach and in close proximity there are several restaurants with simple refreshments, where you can also rent umbrellas and sun loungers. Rental prices are around 15 eur per day for a set of 2 sunbeds and an umbrella.
Free toilets and showers are available right at the entrance to the beach.
Pedal boat, kayak or inflatable water banana or jet ski rentals are also available.
Beachfront accommodation
Ramla beach is not in the immediate vicinity of any village, so you won't find hotels or guesthouses here.
The nearest accommodation is available in the village of Xaghra, but this is about 150 metres higher up.
How to get there
The beach is easily accessible by car and bus. There is a free car park in close proximity. However, please note that in the summer season the car park is already full around 10:00. In this case, parking is along the roadside, but it may happen that a free parking space is more than 500 metres from the beach.
The bus stop is about 250 metres from the beach and can be reached conveniently from the largest city, Rabat (Victoria), as well as from the port by boat from Malta.
