Kampung Genting is the westernmost village on Tioman, making it the first stop for boats departing from the ports of Tanjung Gemok and Mersing on the mainland.

It is the second largest resort on the island after Kampung Tekek.

Genting is spread over 1.5 kilometres of golden beach. The village has a dozen guesthouses and hotels including a boutique resort, Malay and Chinese restaurants and small convenience stores selling drinks, snacks and souvenirs. Above it all are green jungle-covered hills.

In Genting you won't find a road, only a tarmac footpath. In the very centre is the port of Jetty Kg. Genting, and from the pier to either end of the settlement, it takes no more than 15 minutes.

How to get to Genting

In addition to the larger boats leaving from the mainland, you can also use the small sea taxis that are the main mode of transport around the island.

For example, a boat from or to Tekek will cost you 50 myr per person.

Genting beach

The local beach is typified by two features. The first is the golden fine sand and the second is the large boulders in the northern part of the beach. Genting translates as rocky shore.

Right in the village you can take a spot on the wider sandy beach, but if you want privacy, go a few dozen metres outside.

To the north, the rocky coastline stretches for about 2 kilometres to the luxurious Melina Beach Resort. On the way, you'll pass the small cave of Gua Gelamin, which is part of the beach and one of the must-see places in the area. Behind practically every large rock or boulder, you'll find a 2 to 5 metre sandy plaza that will serve as your private beach.

Hiking Tip: If you have plenty of time, head north through the jungle on a marked trail and you'll reach the village of Paya. The journey will take about an hour without a break. However, breaks are recommended just at the beaches described above.

To the south you first have to climb a small elevation gain through the jungle, but after about 200 meters you will again continue along the sandy beach to the village of Kempung Nipah. Compared to the northern part, there are considerably fewer rocks here and the beaches are therefore more spacious. In front of the pier in Nipah there is a small coral suitable for snorkeling.

Hotels in Genting

Typical for Tioman and especially Genting is the accommodation in huts. Some are right next to the beach with beautiful sunset views, others are further away rather hidden in the greenery.
