On the left bank of the Daugava River, the National Library of Latvia is the dominant building.
The unmistakable and controversial shape of the library was completed in August 2014.
You can freely visit the library even as a tourist. We recommend a visit to everyone, even if books don't mean much to you. The huge shelves full of books just have their own unique atmosphere.

As a tourist, you can visit the 12 floors of the building and it is possible to take a guided tour.
There is also an interesting exhibition about the story of the construction of the library, which can be found on the 1st and 12th floor.
Opening hours
The library is open on weekdays from 11:00 to 19:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00. The library remains closed on Sundays, holidays and the second Monday of each month.
The official library website lnb.lv will offer additional information on visiting.
How to get here
The National Library of Latvia is practically the only place worth visiting in Riga, where it is worth using Riga's public transport. Both trams and buses run to the library, with a stop at Nacionālā bibliotēka.
From the city centre you can use bus line 27 and tram lines 1, 2, 5 and 10.
