The Golden Temple in the Japanese Garden

The main building of the Kinkaku-ji complex attracts the attention of tourists from all over the world.

The building's facade is covered with 0.5 μm thick gold leaf. The use of gold is particularly symbolic. The gold was meant to purify the soul from negative thoughts towards death.

The Golden Pavilion stands on the shore of a small lake in the middle of a beautiful Japanese garden, which is at its most beautiful in the second half of November, when the leaves on the trees are turning colour.

The grounds are open every day from 9:00-17:00.

The ticket price is 400 jpy and can be paid by cash or card.
