Porto is a seaside resort on the west coast with a pebble beach and a nice harbour. In the harbour you will find many shops, cafes and restaurants.
Porto is the starting point for hikes through the SpeluncaGorge and for a trip to the Calanche rock formations. The watchtower, built by the Genoese to defend against Saracen raids, towers over the bay of Golfe du Porto.

To help distinguish the much more generic name of the village, the name Porto - Ota is often used after the administrative centre of the area, the village of Ota.
Beaches and swimming
On the very rugged north-west coast of Corsica, you will find few typical resorts and larger beaches. The town of Porto is one of them. Right in the centre of the village, you will find a 200 metre long and very spacious pebble beach with a small restaurant and sunbed and umbrella hire.
The entrance to the sea here is quite steep, which gives ideal conditions for swimming.
You probably won't be spending an entire week's beach holiday in Porto, but for a 1-2 day stop while wandering the west coast, the town is ideal.
Accommodation Porto - Corsica
Porto creates ideal conditions for relatively cheap accommodation even during the summer. Because it is a relatively well-known town, you will find a number of hotels, campsites and private apartments, but on the other hand, because it is not a major Corsican resort, prices are significantly lower than in more well-known places. During the summer, expect prices for 1 night in a double room to be in the range of 73 eur 128 eur .
Best value hotels in Porto:
- Hôtel Ideal ** with prices well below 73 eur just a few metres from the port right in the centre of the village
- La Calypso *** with prices around 92 eur has the best reviews and is located off the harbour promenade
- All accommodation in Porto-Ota
How to get there?
Like all places in Corsica not reached by rail, the best way to get there is by car. The journey from Ajaccio is 80 km, while from Bastia BIA airport it is 118 km.
You can also take a bus directly to the centre of Porto. In the summer season there are 2 daily buses here every day, outside the holidays only 1 on weekdays. The M2 line connects Ajaccio, Cargése, Piana, Porto and Ota and the ticket price from Ajaccio is 8 eur. The timetable can be found here, for example.
