Together with the nearby resort of Ayia Napa, Protaras is one of the most visited places in Cyprus. The lively town is especially popular with families with children for its nicely landscaped and safe beaches and sports enthusiasts. There is a plethora of water and land sports on offer here.

After 8pm, the town comes alive with numerous restaurants and bars, but it is considerably quieter than the nightlife-packed Ayia Napa.

Protaras boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of western Cyprus. There are 2 main beaches right in Protaras.

Fig Tree Beach - The Czech "Fig Tree Beach" is a beautiful sandy beach with a very gradual entry into the water and shallow sea, many offers for sports activities as well as plenty of restaurants nearby. The fact that there are no fig trees for miles around does not detract from the beauty of this beach.
Vrissiana Beach - Just a few dozen metres to the north, the longest local beach (about 400 metres) begins, where everyone will find a little bit of privacy. Compared to the often crowded Fig Tree Beach, it is pleasantly spacious. Locals compare Vrissiana to Miami Beach because of the similar buildings nearby (only several times smaller), the turquoise colour of the warm sea and the palm tree-lined promenade.

The entire town of Protaras practically consists only of hotels, apartments and holiday villas. There is no historical centre and the local offer is in line with that. Protaras is one of the more expensive resorts in Cyprus, the cheapest night in apartments in high season here comes to about 75 eur per night.

Transportation

Protaras lies just past the end of the A3 motorway about 60km from Larnaca. Most accommodation provides free parking on its premises.

It is also easily accessible by bus.

InterCity buses provideintercity transport from the following destinations:

Larnaca (timetable: intercity-buses.com/larnaca) - 4 eur one-way, 7 eur day ticket for the route.
Paphos (timetable: intercity-buses.com/paphos) - 9 eur one-way
Nicosia (timetable: intercity-buses.com/nicosia) - 5 eur one way, 9 eur full day ticket for the route

Local buses are operated by OSEA. As everywhere in Cyprus, a single ticket costs 1,50 eur, a full day ticket for public transport in and around Ayia Napa (by OSEA) goes out at 5 eur. Line 102 runs to Ayia Napa every 20 minutes (in the other direction, marked as l. 101).

You can also use a day ticket for 15 eur valid on all intercity services in Cyprus and all public transport in Larnaca, Nicosia, Paphos, Limassol and the Famagusta region, which includes Ayia Napa.
