The resort of Ayia Napa in eastern Cyprus boasts many beaches, some of which are among the most famous in Cyprus. The number 1 beach is the famous Nissi Beach, however, according to many, the truly most beautiful beach in Ayia Napa is Makronissos Beach.
- The fine light sand
- Very shallow water and gradual entry into the sea without rocks
- Calm sea protected from the winds
- Dimensions approx. 200 x 150 metres
Swimming and beach facilities
Makronissos beach is already outside the town, surrounded by only a few hotels and otherwise nice rural surroundings. Makronissos Beach is thus much quieter than Nissi. In fact, the beach connects a small rocky island to the coastline, creating two lagoons - you can swim on both sides of the beach.
There is no entrance fee to the beach and there are full facilities in the form of many restaurants and bars, a small water park, various water sports and activities on offer and of course sunbed and umbrella hire (7,50 eur for a set of one umbrella and two sunbeds).
Hotels near Makronissos beach
Several hotels and resorts surround the beach, but the notoriety of Makronissos takes its toll in the form of higher prices, which start at 4 0 eur 0 eur per night for 2 in high season.
Transportation
Makronissos beach is close to the main road running through Ayia Napa and there is free parking right next to the beach. However, this fills up very quickly and there is nowhere to stop around 9am.
It is therefore better to use the buses, which stop about 70 metres from the beach. The InterCity long-distance services from Larnaca and Nicosia stop here, as well as the local public transport OSEA lines 101 and 102, which will take you to the aqua park, the centre of Ayia Napa, Cape Greco and Protaras.
