Transportation from Zurich Airport

Airport ZRH

Zurich Airport is one of the most accessible airports in the world.

There is an underground railway station with direct connections to all of Switzerland, and dozens of bus and tram lines to the surrounding districts and towns.

Zurich city centre

You can reach the centre of Zurich quickly by train without changing trains, or more slowly by a scenic tram ride through the picturesque suburbs.

Immediately upon exiting the arrivals hall, screens everywhere display the current departures of all trains, buses and trams.

Ticket prices

Ticket prices are the same for all modes of transport. Trains, trams and buses throughout the Zurich area are integrated into one transport system.

The same prices for travel to Zurich apply for both regional and long-distance InterCity trains.

To get to the city centre, you need a ticket for 3 zones (110 + 121, with zone 110 counting double).

  • 7 chf - 1 hour (any number of changes)
  • 14 chf - 24 hours (for zones 110 + 121)

If you want to travel a lot only in the city of Zurich (zone 110), it is worth buying a single ticket from the airport for 3,40 chf and then a 24-hour ticket for 2 zones for 8,80 chf.

There is also a 24-hour ticket for 6,80 chf valid for any number of journeys on the Airport-Zurich route.

Where to buy tickets?

Tickets can be purchased at the Swiss Railways SBB ticket machine before entering the platform or at the Zurich ZVV transport system ticket machine after exiting the concourse on the way to the bus and tram stops.

Online tickets can be conveniently purchased via the ZVV or Swiss Railways SBB mobile app.

Train

By far the fastest way to get to the city is by train. The station is located underground between the two terminals.

You can use regional trains, city trains "S-Bahn" and long-distance InterCity trains to get to the main station "Zurich Hauptbahnhof".

Few services terminate directly in Zurich, so you will usually see another city as your final destination on the departure boards. Some trains don't go to the centre of Zurich, so look especially for the second line on the departure board, which must say "Zurich HB" to get to the centre.

  • Travel time - 10 to 13 minutes
  • Frequency - 2 to 16 minutes
  • Last train from the airport - 0:42
  • First train from Zurich HB - 4:33
  • Find connections and timetables: sbb.ch or zvv.ch

Tram

If you are travelling to North Zurich, you will find it most convenient to use tram lines 10 and 12.

Line 10 goes directly to the centre, while line 12 goes to the eastern suburb of Stettbach.

  • Journey time - 35 minutes
  • Frequency - 8 minutes
  • Find connections and timetables: sbb.ch or zvv.ch

Tickets can be bought in the same way as for the Zurich connection at the ticket machines before entering the platform or at the SBB information centre.

You can buy tickets online at sbb.ch, where you can also find all available connections.

Car rental

Explore the picturesque hilly landscape of northern Switzerland or head straight into the heart of the Alps.

To explore the countryside, it's ideal to rent a car at the airport. You can also cross the border into Germany or Austria or Liechtenstein without worrying.

Compare prices - book a car

Average rental prices for a week start at 380 chf.

All car rental companies are located in the basement under both terminals towards the train station.

Taxi, Uber

Taxis or the Uber mobile app are the most convenient mode of transport for travellers with large luggage.

Official taxis run by meter and you can always pay with cash and card. There are a large number of taxis waiting at the airport day and night and the waiting time will be up to 3 minutes at most.

Usually, an Uber ride can be up to 15% cheaper

  • Zurich city centre - 50 chf for a taxi / from 40 chf for an Uber
