Although the capital Tunis operates a network of trains and trams, only buses arrive at the airport, with no way of knowing the timetable in advance.
The vast majority of passengers therefore use taxis.
Taxi
If you are flying to Tunis individually, a taxi will be the most convenient option.
Mobile apps
For international visitors, we recommend using the well-known mobile apps that operate in Tunis.
You know the price in advance and can choose to pay automatically with a card stored in the app.
Some of the well-known apps operating in Tunis include Bolt (App Store / Google Play).
Prices are dynamic and are determined by current demand. On average, you will pay the following amounts for a trip from the airport via the Bolt app:
- Tunis city centre (train station) - 14 tnd
- Karthago - 17 tnd
- Resort Gammarth – 20 tnd
Regular taxis
Ignore the standing "taxi drivers" in the arrivals hall and go outside the terminal where the official yellow taxis have a stand.
Although the taxis are equipped with a meter, even officially the taxi drivers are allowed to negotiate the price, which they often do and don't turn on the meter at all.
A ride in an official taxi will cost you depending on how good your haggling skills are.
However, it is usually impossible to negotiate a price lower than 25 tnd. The initial amounts to start haggling are often over 50 dinars, which is 4 times what you would pay through the Bolt app.
You can only pay in cash.
Car rental
If you're planning to explore Tunisia on your own and want to venture out into the mountains or rural areas, renting a car is the best and virtually only option.
Many major international car rental companies operate at Tunis Airport.
Prices for 1 week start at 220 eur.
Public transport buses
The airport is also served by buses of the transport company SNT - line 635. Line 35 no longer serves the airport.
Although there are bus shelters in front of the terminal, buses do not stop in front of the terminal from 2022.
The bus stop is located about 400 metres from the airport on the main street on the left. There is no timetable information at the bus stop.
Line 635 follows the same route to the Marine interchange in the city centre.
- Price - 1 tnd
- Travel time - 30 minutes
- Frequency - 30-40 minutes
- Hours of operation - 6:40 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Ticket can only be purchased with cash inside the bus from the conductor who makes the rounds to all passengers. If there is no conductor on the bus, you pay directly to the driver.
