Thiruvananthapuram Airport has 2 terminals, each on the opposite side of the runway and not connected in any way.

• Terminal 1 - a small and often very crowded building in the southern part of the airport serves all domestic flights within India
• Terminal 2 - a small modern building in the northern part of the airport serves all international flights

Both buildings are very clear and can be crossed on foot in 5 minutes.

The first security check takes place as soon as you enter the terminal, where you have to show your ticket or boarding pass, which is enough to be stored in your phone.

There are no free airport shuttle buses running between the terminals. You have to use regular paid public transport buses or much better a taxi/Uber.

Transfer between flights

Thiruvnanthapuram is not one of the main transfer points and therefore neither terminal has direct transit options.

For domestic transfers, you must always leave the transit area and go through security back to the departure gates.

If you only have an international transfer there is a special corridor where you do not have to go through immigration.

When transferring between domestic and international flights, you must always take the public section and take a taxi at your own expense for approximately 20 minutes between terminals. In this case, you must always collect your luggage and check it in yourself.

Overnight in the terminal - opening hours

The airport remains open 24/7. However, you will only be admitted to the building upon presentation of your ticket or boarding pass and staff will often refuse to admit passengers who have a departure in more than 5 hours.

As a practical matter, you can stay overnight at the airport for a long layover, for example, but there are minimal comfortable seats in the public area.

Moreover, both terminals are very busy throughout the night.

There are several hotels along the main road about a 15-minute walk from both terminals.

With most search portals such as booking.com or agoda.com, beware that many local private accommodations are shown on the map with a location right at the airport. In reality, these accommodations are often more than 5 km from the airport.
