The airport is well accessible by public transport, express buses and especially by rail.
The 10 best hotels in Stockholm
The fastest and most expensive way to get to the centre is by train, and the cheapest way is by a combination of public transport bus to Märsta station and a suburban train.

Always buy tickets for the best price on the website of the specific carrier. On sj.se, the lowest prices are only for own connections or SL connections. Tickets from other carriers can be bought via sj.se, but are usually more expensive.

Trains to Stockholm
Rail is the fastest transport to central Stockholm and, with a change, all over Sweden. You can use two types of trains.
Arlanda Express and Mälartåg
Express trains, which run non-stop to Stockholm Central Station for a total of 18 and 19 minutes respectively, are operated by two separate companies: Arlanda Express and Mälartåg.
You can buy your ticket online at arlandaexpress.com (no date is entered, the ticket is valid for all services until you use it) or at malartag.se (a specific service is entered, but you can use a later one on a given day). For both carriers, you can also buy a ticket from a machine where you can only pay by card.
- Arlanda Express - 340 sek one way / 640 sek return
- Group discount for 2 - 460 sek one way / 920 sek return
- Group discount for 4 - 700 sek one way / 1 400 sek return
- Mälartåg - 218 sek one way (no return discount)
Arlanda Express trains run 3 times per hour and stop at the airport at the stations "Arlanda Norra" (terminals 4/5) and "Arlanda Södra" (terminals 2/3).
Mälartåg trains run only once an hour and stop at Arlanda Central station below the SkyCity terminal.
- Journey time to Stockholm C - 18 minutes
- Fares - 340 sek / 640 sek return at Arlanda Express or 218 sek at Mälartåg (group discount for 2 only at Arlanda Express)
- Frequency - 15-30 minutes (3 connections per hour) with Arlanda Express or 60 minutes with Mälartåg
- First connection from Stockholm C - 4:20 (Arlanda Express)
- Last connection from the airport - 1:05 (Arlanda Express)
While the Arlanda Express always starts and ends at Stockholm C station, Mälartåg goes all the way to Örebro.
Local trains
The regular local trains of Stockholm Transport Company SL (referred to as Pendeltåg) and the long-distance trains of Swedish Railways SJ also stop at the airport. Please note that a ticket purchased for the "Pendeltåg" train of line 40 cannot be used for SJ InterCity trains and vice versa.
However, ticket prices for the airport are higher than regular city fares, and day and multi-day tickets on Stochkolm cannot be used for direct SJ or SL trains.
SJ / SL trains stop at Arlanda Central station below the SkyCity terminal.
Tickets for "Pendeltåg" trains on line 40
Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office at the station entrance or on the SL mobile app (Google Play / App Store). The ticket can also be purchased via the Swedish Railways SJ website, but at an additional cost of SEK 23.
- Journey time to Stockholm C - 38 minutes
- Fares - 177 sek
- Frequency - 30 minutes
- First connection from Stockholm C - 4:08
- Last connection from the airport - 0:43
The journey takes 38 minutes, as Line 40 trains stop at several stations along the way. The advantage of the Pendeltåg trains of line 40 is that from Stockholm C station it continues on to the southern parts of Stockholm without changing trains, see map below.
Tickets for SJ trains
You can also use the SJ intercity trains to get to the city centre, but tickets can only be bought at the airport via sj. se or the SJ mobile app, and they are more expensive than for line 40 trains.

Buses to Stockholm
For the best value for money, Vy Flygbussarna buses run to central Stockholm on 3 different routes. You will find the stops at the airport in front of the terminal in front of terminal 2/3.
A one-way ticket costs 129 sek, but to more distant stops (e.g. Brommaplan) the price is 139 sek.
Buy a ticket - Flygbussarna.se
You Flygbussarna has an advantage over the train or Flixbus in multiple routes and thus serves a large part of Stockholm with direct connections.
Flgybussarna routes:
- Arlanda - Cityterminalen (Stockholm city centre): from 3:00 to 2:10 at intervals of 15 minutes (morning and evening 30 minutes)
- Arlanda - Liljeholmen: from 4:00 to 23:55 at 30-minute intervals
- Arlanda - Brommaplan: from 3:55 to 23:35 at intervals of 60 minutes
Flygbussarna services are supplemented by cheaper Flixbus services several times a day. Depending on the availability of the bus, the ticket costs range from 93 sek to 120 sek. The disadvantages are the significantly less frequent service and only one stop in the city centre.
Ideally, buy tickets online at both companies' websites.
- flygbussarna.se/en/arlanda (It is purchased without date and time entry and is valid for 3 months from purchase for any connection)
- flixbus.com (purchased for a specific connection)
Flygbussarny buses stop at several other places in Stockholm besides the terminals, such as Järva Krog, Frösunda or Norra.
- Travel time to the city centre - 45-50 minutes
- Fares - from 95 sek for Flixbus or 129 sek for Flygbussarna
- Frequency - 15-30 minutes Flygbussarna, irregularly about 10-13 times a day Flixbus
- First connection from Stockholm C - 3:00 (Flygbussarna)
- Last connection from the airport - 2:10 (Flygbussarna)

You can conveniently pay for the single ticket with your contactless payment card, which you attach to the validator inside the bus or on the train platform (including transfers).
However, no daily limits are included when paying by card, so if you want to use a 24-hour ticket, it is more convenient to buy it via the mobile app or at the ticket office.

- 24 hours for 175 sek

- Timetables for bus 583 or 597
- Pendeltåg 40 timetable
