Transfer at Soul Gimpo Airport

Bukchon

Gimpo Airport has 2 terminals in separate buildings, separated by a distance of approximately 500 metres.

Both buildings are simple and low-profile, making orientation very easy. Check-in processes are significantly faster than at the giant Incheon ICN airport.

For international flights, arrive at the airport 2 hours before departure. For domestic flights, arrive 90 minutes before departure.

Terminals - flight distribution

Which terminal are you flying from? Terminals are not officially designated by number.

  • Domestic - the smaller of the buildings is allocated for all flights to South Korean destinations, in particular Jeju Island and Busan
  • International - the slightly larger building serves all flights outside South Korea

Transfer between flights

Transfer procedures vary depending on the type of transfer. However, Gimpo Airport is not as frequent a transfer point as the larger Incheon ICN Airport.

International <-> Domestic

If you arrive in South Korea from another country and continue on to Jeju or Busan, you must always go through immigration at Gimpo Airport and pick up your luggage there.

You will then take the free shuttle bus, which runs every 5 minutes, to the other terminal.

The bus stops directly in front of the terminals:

  • Domestic terminal - at exit 5
  • International Terminal - between gates 1 and 2

The shuttle bus only runs in the public section.

At the next terminal you have to go through the full check-in process.

The real transfer time is between 60 and 90 minutes.

International <-> International

If Gimpo Airport is just a transfer point, for example when travelling from China to Japan, you do not need to leave the transit area.

You will pass through a special security checkpoint within the transit area, which is reserved for transfer passengers only. There is no passport control.

The real transfer time is approximately 30 minutes.

Domestic <-> Domestic

Domestic transfers are absolutely rare due to Seoul's geographical location.

Nevertheless, if you do make such a transfer, you will find yourself right in the departure gate area when you get off the plane. You do not go through any passport or security checks.

The real transfer time is about 15 minutes.
