Express buses to Termini

The most convenient are the direct express buses to the main station "Termini", which do not stop anywhere else on the way.

There are several carriers to choose from, the largest of which is Terravision, the others being Flixbus (selling tickets for the SIT Bus Shuttle) and Rome Airport Bus. All companies run on the same route.

The cheapest one-way tickets for 6 eur are sold by Terravision and Sit Bus, while the cheapest return tickets for 9,90 eur can be purchased from Rome Airport Bus. The other two carriers have a return ticket for 11 eur.

Public transport buses

Using bus lines 520 and 720 to the nearest metro stations is the cheapest way to get to the centre.

At the airport, they depart from platform 7 in front of the terminal.

  • Bus 720 to B Laurentina metro station - runs every 20 to 30 minutes from 5:30 to 23:30, including weekends
  • Bus 520 to metro station A Cinnecitá + Subaugusta - runs every 15 to 30 minutes from 5:30 to 23:30 including weekends

The total journey time from Ciampino Airport to the centre of Rome will be about 75 minutes, the combination of bus 520 + metro A is faster.

A transfer ticket for 100 minutes costs 1,50 eur. This ticket will cover the whole journey from the airport to the city centre.

You can also use a day ticket for 7 eur, a two-day ticket for 12,50 eur or a three-day ticket for 18 eur. You can buy tickets at the information booth in the arrivals hall.

Bus + train

Alternatively, and often the quickest, is a combination of an AirLink shuttle bus to Ciampino station and a train to Rome's main Termini station.

A ticket for 2,70 eur can be purchased on Trenitalia's website, where you can also get the exact timetable, from the bus driver or on the way out of the centre at the self-service ticket offices at the station. Don't confuse airports - there are two in Rome, the larger Fiumicino and Ciampino.

Buses from Cimapino always connect to the train and run every 15 minutes during the day (on weekends the interval is about 45 minutes) and you can see the exact timetable on the website: trenitalia.com/ciampino-airlink. The journey takes between 35 and 45 minutes in total.

Taxi

Regular taxis and apps like Bolt and Uber cost around the same price to get to the centre of Rome. 40 eur.

Taxis are easily available at all hours of the day and night.

Rent a car

While a car is definitely not recommended for getting to the centre of Rome, if you want to head straight from Ciampino Airport to the countryside or the beaches of the Lazio region, a car is a great option.

There are many local and large international rental companies right in the terminal. Prices for weekly rentals in the summer season start at 160 eur.

To Fiumicino Airport

Direct connections are only provided by the intercity Gaspari Bus service with irregular intervals (about once every hour or two). The timetable is not posted anywhere, but the information desk will tell you the departure times. The price per ride is 10 eur and is payable to the driver.

The only other way is with a change at the main station (Termini). The total journey takes a minimum of 120 minutes. Allow a minimum of 4 hours to transfer between flights.
