There is only one modern, but relatively small and cramped terminal at Puerto Vallarta Airport.
In particular, the public section of the terminal is often crowded and without any seating except in the restaurants. Queues for security checks before departure can take up to 30 minutes.
Passport control on arrival is usually formal and quick, but if multiple international flights are meeting at the airport in a short space of time, you can spend up to 60 minutes in line.
The airport terminal is divided into domestic and international sections.
The post-security section is slightly more spacious than landside, but there is a shortage of seating here as well.
We recommend arriving at the airport about 2.5 hours before departure, not much longer.
Transfer between flights
Puerto Vallarta is not a transfer hub and therefore does not have direct transfer options.
You always have to pick up your luggage upon arrival, go through immigration, check in for your next flight if necessary, and go through security to the transit area.
