Tram (metro)
From Porto, there is a direct metro line "E", or rather a fast tram line, to the airport. It connects the airport with the city centre, the train and bus stations, as well as the main football stadium. The metro runs every 20-30 minutes and takes you to the city centre in half an hour.
For timetables and maps of the Porto metro, visit the official website: en.metrodoporto.pt.
Single tickets
A 75-minute ticket costs 2,25 eur. You must select the Z4 ticket to travel through the 4 zones, before that you must buy an Andante card at the machine for 0,60 eur, which you can use to buy additional tickets at will.
You can only load one ticket per Andante card. After the expiry date, you can load another ticket of your choice onto the card at any vending machine without having to issue a new card for € 0.60.
Day tickets
There are three variants of day (or multi-day) tickets in Porto.
- Andante Tour for 7,50 eur for 24 hours
- Can only be purchased at the information kiosk in the arrivals hall (closes at 21:00)
- Cannot be recharged
- No charge of €0.60 per card
- Andante Tour for 16 eur for 72 hours
- Can only be purchased at the information kiosk in the arrivals hall (closes at 21:00)
- Cannot be recharged
- No fee of €0.60 per card
- Andante 24 per 8,30 eur for 24 hours for 4 zones (Z4)
- Can be purchased from a vending machine at the bus stop 24/7
- You can top up additional Andante 24 tickets on the card
- There is an additional non-refundable card issuance fee 0,60 eur
A day ticket called Andante Tour 1 costs 7,50 eur. The ticket is valid for 4 zones for 24 hours from the time it is marked and can be used on the metro, buses and trains throughout Porto and the neighbouring town of Vila Nova de Gaia.
If you will only be travelling around Porto and the adjacent town of Vila Nova de Gaia and not going to the marina in Matosinhos, it is worth buying one ticket from the airport for 2,25 eur (+0,60 eur for the card) and then in town the Andante 24 Z2 ticket for 4,20 eur (just load onto an already used ticket, so no additional charge of €0.60).
Tickets can be bought from the ticket machine at the metro station, where you can pay with coins, cash and credit card.

- Price - 2,25 eur for 75 minutes (transfer ticket)
- Frequency - 17 minutes

Buses
Buses going to the city centre also stop at the airport. Both main routes terminate at the Cordoaria stop right in the historic centre of Porto.
- Route 601 - goes to the centre via the Leça da Palmeira district once every 35 minutes
- Journey time: 36 minutes
- First connection from Cordaria - 6:00
- Last connection from the airport - 1:10
- Route 602 - goes directly to the centre, but with more stops along the way than the 601, frequency is 40 minutes (only every other service to the airport)
- Travel time: 50 minutes
- First connection from Cordaria - 6:05
- Last connection from the airport - 20:45
The ticket price for Z4 zones is the same as for the metro: 2,25 eur + 0,60 eur per card. Also for buses you can use the Andante Tour day passes.
Line 604 only goes to the north of Porto and is not usable for travel to the centre.
Information about buses in Porto is available on the official website: stcp.pt/en
Night transport
At night, bus number 3M runs every 60 minutes from the centre (Av. Aliados). Departures from the centre are always on the hour from 1:00am to 5:00am, the journey to the airport takes 28 minutes according to the timetable, the fares are the same as on daytime bus routes.
Car rental
Porto is a popular destination for travelling not only around the city, but also around the famous Douro Valley wine region and the whole of northern Portugal. For these trips, the most convenient car rental option will be directly at the airport, where most of the large multinational companies and smaller local rental companies are based.
For example, you can compare all the car rental companies at a glance via the website Booking.com, where you can also book a car directly. Prices range between 30 eur and 50 eur per day.
Taxi
Taxis to Porto Airport are metered and the price to the city centre is around 25 eur.
Significantly cheaper, apps like Uber or Bolt can get you to the city centre from 15 eur.

Hello, I would like to correct the following statement: 'You can only upload the same type of fare as when you first uploaded it to an Andante card. For example, it is not possible to purchase a card with a single €2.25 ticket and then top up a 24-hour ticket in the city the next day."
It is not possible to have 2 types of fare on one Andante card at the same time , but it is not necessary to upload only the same type of fare as the first upload. Once all the tickets on the Andante card have been used up, any other type of fare can be uploaded. When you load an exhausted Andante, the machine will offer you the option to purchase the original fare type or change the fare type. Personally tested a few days ago. (I don't know if it is possible to change even in case of unused tickets at the cost of deleting them).
So in the example below, 0.6 EUR for the second ticket will be dropped. (+ there is probably a typo in the first price, where it says 2.15 instead of 2.25)
"If you will only be travelling around Porto and the adjacent town of Vila Nova de Gaia and not going to the marina in Matosinhos, it is worth buying one ticket from the airport for €2.15 (+€0.60 per card) and then in town an Andante 24 Z2 ticket for €4.20 (+€0.60 per card)."
Have a nice day from your regular visitor Peter :)

Hello Peter, thanks for the info - updated!
Both main routes terminate at the Cordaria stop in the historic centre of Lisbon. I suppose downtown Porto is correct.
Yeah, thanks. Fixed it.
