Transportation from Oslo Airport

Oslo

The fastest and cheapest way to get to the city centre is on Vy's suburban trains, on which regular public transport tickets in Oslo are valid. The competing fast train Flytoget offers a busier but twice as expensive connection.

Buses are also about 2x more expensive than Vy trains and significantly slower.

Always look for train and bus stations at the airport under the name "Oslo Lufthavn".

Price Travel time (Oslo S) Frequency
Trains R12, RE10, RE11 124 nok 23 minutes 10-30 minutes
Flytoget trains 240 nok* 20 minutes 10 minutes
Bus Flybussen 249 nok 60 minutes 1-2 times per hour
Bus 400 124 nok 100 minutes 1x per hour

* Students and seniors have a ticket for 120 nok. However, it is not valid for other modes of transport compared to the ticket for 124 nok, see details below.

Map of connections to Oslo

Find out what routes the trains and buses take. All train stations are plotted on the map below. Buses stop at most stops along the route (not shown on the map).

Trains to central Oslo

There are two train companies on the route from the airport to the city centre.

Trains Vy (R12, RE10, RE11)

The regular commuter trains are the cheapest option, yet just as fast as competing high-speed trains. All of these lines are incorporated into Oslo public transport. The disadvantage is the higher occupancy.

All lines run from the airport to Oslo S main station and continue through the centre (Nationaltheatret) to Drammen.

At the airport station, head for track number 4 to get to Oslo.

  • R12 - in the direction from the airport to the city centre, the destination station is Kongsberg or Asker, in the direction to the airport, board trains with the destination Eidsvoll
  • RE10 - in the direction from the airport to the city centre, the destination station is Asker, Drammen or Oslo S, in the direction to the airport, board trains towards Lillehammer
  • RE11 - in the direction from the airport to the city centre has a destination station Skien, in the direction of the airport board trains towards Eidsvoll

Each line runs once an hour, so the resulting frequency is 10-30 minutes.

  • Fares - 124 nok for 2.5 hours (connecting to metro, trams, buses, ferries and other trains You within zones 1-4)
  • Travel time - 23 minutes to Oslo S main station
  • Last train from the airport - 23:43 (line R12)
  • First train from Oslo S - 6:24 on weekdays (line RE11), 6:45 on weekends (line R12)

You can buy a ticket for 124 nok at the purple ticket machine, on the ruter.no website or on the Ruter mobile app. This price is valid for travel to Oslo S, Nationaltheatret, Lysaker and Skøyen stations.

There is also a 24-hour ticket for 291 nok for 4 zones, but it is only worth buying if you travel to/from the airport more than once within its validity. Otherwise, purchase a ticket for 124 nok and then a 24-hour ticket for zone 1 (Oslo) only for 127 nok.

Flytoget

Flytoget express trains offer a more convenient transport option as they run significantly less busy.

It also has the advantage of more frequent connections at regular intervals of 10 minutes and the possibility to buy discounted tickets for students and seniors.

The disadvantage is the price of the adult ticket, which also cannot be used for other modes of transport in Oslo.

Flytoget trains have a terminus at the airport. Therefore, you can take any connection when travelling from the centre.

From the airport to the centre, the FLY1 runs 5 times an hour on the route Oslo Airport - Lillestrøm - Oslo Central - Nationaltheatret - Skøyen - Lysaker - Stabekk - Sandvika - Asker - Drammen.

Route FLY2 operates once per hour only on the route Oslo Airport - Oslo Central.

At the airport station, take the special corridor "Flytoget" to platform 2 or 3 for your journey to Oslo.

  • Fares - 240 nok (to Drammen station 290 nok) / 120 nok for students and seniors
  • Travel time - 20 minutes to Oslo S main station
  • Last train from the airport - 0:50
  • First train from Oslo S - 4:40

Tickets can be purchased at the orange machine or on the flytoget.no website.

Tip for a cheap hotel near the station

Don't look for complicated accommodation when you arrive in the city and choose one of the hotels right by Oslo S station, which is served by trains and buses from the airport.

Express buses to Oslo

There are express buses from Flybussen and OSL-Ekspressen to various destinations in Oslo.

Tickets to all Flybussen destinations cost 249 nok, while OSL-Ekspressen tickets cost from 250 nok to 281 nok depending on distance. These tickets are not valid on any other mode of transport.

The bus journey takes around 60 to 80 minutes and is thus 2-3 times longer than travelling by train.

Buses have a wider coverage of destinations outside the centre and are worthwhile if you prefer a direct connection to the cheaper train journey with a change to the metro or tram.

The following lines run to the airport, all with a frequency of 60 minutes:

  • FB1 (Flybussen) - via North Oslo to Majorstuen station
  • FB3A (Flybussen) - via North Oslo to Bekkestua station (longer journey than FB3B)
  • FB3B (Flybussen) - via North Oslo to Bekkestua station
  • FB5A (Flybussen) - goes around the whole historic centre to Oslo S central station
  • FB5B (Flybussen) - goes directly to Oslo S Central Station and continues to the Nationaltheatret
  • FB10 (OSL-Ekespressen) - goes to the south-eastern part of Oslo to Mortensrud station

Buses stop directly in front of the terminal and you can find out the specific platform on the electronic board.

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machine at the bus stop, by card from the driver or on the websites flybussen.no and osl-ekspressen.no.

Bus route 400

A complementary connection to Oslo S Central Station is the suburban bus line 400, on which all Ruter tickets for public transport in Oslo are valid.

The journey to the centre is therefore as expensive as the trains You: 124 nok / transfer ticket for 2.5 hours.

The 400 line bus runs once an hour and does not go along the motorway, but through smaller villages along the route, the journey takes over 90 minutes. So for getting to the centre of Oslo the line 400 has no advantage over the train.

You can find timetables on the ruter.no website.

Car rental

Norway's beautiful countryside starts just a few metres from the airport, and if cities aren't your only destination, renting a car is the best form of transport to discover Norway.

Many international rental companies are based at the airport. You'll find their counters on the ground floor of the P10 garage, which can be reached via the escalator on the left side of the arrivals hall.

Prices for weekly rentals range from 190 eur in high season.

Taxi

Taxis are by far the most expensive transport to Oslo.

After exiting the arrivals hall, you choose your destination at an automated kiosk, pay (by card only) and wait for a specific taxi to arrive. The license plate number of the car you need to board will be on your receipt.

To the centre of Oslo you will pay approximately 900 nok.

There are direct train and bus lines to destinations other than Oslo.

The total journey takes 124 minutes and costs 284 nok. You can buy your ticket cheapest on the vy.no website or the Vy mobile app. If you buy your ticket on the spot, you pay 520 nok.
