Most travellers use a rental car for transport from the airport.
However, the terminals are also served by the Brightline high-speed coast-to-coast rail to Miami, local public transportation buses to Orlando, and special bus routes to nearby theme parks.
Car rental
Travelling by car outside the cities is the most practical transport option in Florida. Even major cities prefer car transport completely.
Rates for weekly rentals range from 250 usd to 350 usd, depending on the season, while many rental car companies charge no fee for returning it to another location, such as Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
Car rental companies are located in the parking garages near Terminals A and B. If you arrive at Terminal C, you'll find car rental counters in the arrivals hall and be transported to your car by a free shuttle bus that runs about once every 10-15 minutes.
Taxi, Uber, Lyft
Taxis or the mobile apps Uber and Lyft are popular transportation options to Orlando or hotels around Disney World.
Classic yellow cab stands can be found at these locations as well as shared services can be found in front of all terminals.
Regular Uber or Lyft rates from Orlando Airport are as follows:
- Orlando Downtown - 33 usd
- Disney World - 38 usd
- Universal Studios - 34 usd
- SeaWorld Orlando - 32 usd
- Port Canaveral - 64 usd
Regular taxi fares can be up to two-thirds higher.
Disney World buses
Florida's most popular attraction has good public transport links to the airport.
Express buses
Mears Connect's modern, air-conditioned buses provide a direct link between the airport and the Disney World resort. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes.
The buses run 24/7 at intervals of about 30 minutes and you always need to book your ride online via the official website: mearsconnect.com/reserve.
There are stops at several Disney World parks as well as various hotels along the route from the airport.
The ticket costs 17,60 usd (or 14,30 usd for children under 9). A round-trip ticket is sold at a slight discount for 33,60 usd (or 27,30 usd for children 9 and under).
Public transport with transfer
It's cheaper to get to Disney World on LYNX public transportation buses. However, you have to change buses once along the way and the total journey is about 100 minutes, more than twice as long as the Mears express bus.
First, use the 111 line to the "Destination Parkway" station, where you transfer to the 350 line, which will take you to the "Disney Springs Transfer Center" terminus. The frequency of each line is 30 minutes.
Because the trip will take more than 90 minutes, you must purchase a ticket for each ride at 2 usd from the driver or on the Lynx Paw Pass mobile app. In total, you will pay for the trip 4 usd.
Timetables and maps can be found on the website: golynx.com.
Orlando public buses
By far the cheapest transportation to downtown Orlando and surrounding neighborhoods is the Lynx city bus.
Stops are outside the arrivals hall of Terminal A. There are no Lynx buses to Terminal C and you must use the airport shuttle bus or the free automated train, see the Terminals section.
Official information, current prices, timetables and maps can be found on the website: golynx.com.
Tickets for 90 minutes allow you to transfer to all other LYNX lines and cost 2 usd. There is also an all-day pass (calendar day only) available for 4,50 usd. Tickets can be purchased from the driver using cash only or the Lynx Paw Pass mobile app.
