Transportation from Monastir Airport

The airport is connected to the railway and car rental or taxi services are also available. There are no regular bus services to the airport.

Transportation with travel agency

Most of the passengers arriving in Monastir will fly with a travel agent. So just look for your delegate in the arrivals hall, who will arrange a transfer directly to your hotel at no added charge.

Travel agency delegates are always waiting in the arrivals hall and are marked with a sign with your travel company's logo.

Car rental

If you've scored a cheap flight to Monastir, typically from France or Germany, and the airport will be your starting point for exploring the Tunisian countryside and desert, renting a car is the ideal option.

There are several international car rental companies based right in the terminal, such as Budget, Europcar and Avis.

Prices for a week's car hire in high season start at 235 eur for a small car.

Train

Train station called „Aeroport Skanes Monastir“ can be found about 150 metres to the right of the terminal.

Mostly modern trains run to Monastir, Mahdia and Sousse about once an hour. This line is pretentiously referred to as the "Sahel Metro" or "Banlieue du Sahel".

The timetable can be found on the website: sncft.com.tn/banlieue-du-sahel/horaires.

When travelling from the airport, you must buy your ticket from the conductor inside the train. When travelling to the airport from the station where there is a ticket office, you must buy your ticket before boarding the train. Payment can only be made in cash at any time.

In Sousse, trains terminate at Bab Jdid station and do not go to the long-distance Voyageurs station.

Taxi

There are always plenty of official yellow taxis outside the terminal and in the towns.

Mobile apps like Bolt or Uber don't work in this part of Tunisia.

They don't run by meter and it always depends on what price you can negotiate. Taxi prices should not exceed the following amounts:

  • Monastir - 20 tnd
  • Sousse - 35 tnd
  • Hammamet - 90 tnd
  • Mahdia - 70 tnd
  • Kairouan - 90 tnd
