Getting from Los Angeles Airport

Los Angeles

The airport is served by a large number of different bus companies to different parts of the city and surrounding areas. There are Flyaway buses, airport shuttle buses and shuttle services to car rental companies and hotels.

The metro does not yet run directly to the terminals, but you can use the free shuttle bus to the nearest "Aviation/LAX" station.

Car Rental

Traveling by car outside of cities is the only practical transportation option in California. Even large cities prefer automobile transportation entirely.

Rates for weekly rentals range from 250 usd to 350 usd, depending on the season, yet many rental car companies charge no fee to return them in another location, such as San Francisco.

Rental car companies are located about 1.5 to 2.5 miles east of the airport campus. On the arrivals level of all terminals, wait outside the building at the bus stop marked with a purple shuttle bus sign. It runs approximately every 10 minutes 24/7 and shuttles passengers to all rental car locations.

Taxi, Uber, Lyft

Taxis or the mobile apps Uber or Lyft are the most popular transportation to Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Long Beach.

The classic yellow cabs can be found at the following locations:

  • LAX-it parking lot east of Terminal 1
  • Lower level of Garage 3 between Terminals 3 and TBIT
  • East end of Terminal 7

The Uber and Lyft shared taxi stand is located in the LAX-it parking lot only.

Free green shuttle buses with large "LAX-it" signs run from all terminals to the parking lot. The stops are located on the ground floor of the terminals (arrivals) and are also marked with a green "LAX-it" sign. The bus runs 24/7 at 5-minute intervals, and it takes about 10 minutes to get from the furthest terminal TBIT to the taxis.

If you arrive at Terminal 1, it's quicker to walk to the LAX-it parking lot (about 150 metres).
